Know this about Norway

  • In Norway your own share of a fraud loss is capped at NOK 450 under Norwegian law, not the EUR 50 used in EU countries.
  • SpareBank 1 is a group of separate regional banks, each with its own number. Call the one for your bank, shown in your app or on your card.
  • We could not verify a phone number for DNB. Use the number on the back of your card or in the DNB app.

If Handelsbanken Norway won’t help

Finansklagenemnda (Norwegian Financial Services Complaints Board)

Out-of-court complaints from consumers about banks and other financial services, if your bank rejects your claim.

Complain to your bank first and wait until it has finished handling your case. Submit through the online form or by post (not by email); the case must not be in court, and the bank must be a member.

Your rights as a Handelsbanken Norway customer in Norway

  • Financial Contracts Act (finansavtaleloven) § 4-30: your share of the loss. Your bank is liable for losses from payments you did not authorise. If a lost or stolen card or other payment method was misused, your own share is at most NOK 450, and nothing if you could not have noticed the problem beforehand. You can be held liable for more only if you were grossly negligent (up to NOK 12,000 for electronic payment methods) or acted on purpose. Source
  • Financial Contracts Act (finansavtaleloven) § 4-32: refund deadline. If you dispute that you are liable, your bank must refund the amount and lost interest, minus your own share, immediately and no later than the end of the next business day. It may hold the refund only if it reasonably suspects fraud on your part and takes the case to court or a complaints body within four weeks of your written objection. Source
