Bank of America Fraud: How to Report It and Stop the Money

If money left your Bank of America account without your permission, or you paid a scammer, contact Bank of America straight away and ask it to block the payment and your card. The first minutes matter most.

Do this first

  1. Call Bank of America’s official line below, or use help inside the official Bank of America app. Never use a number from a text, a caller or a search result.
  2. Give them the transaction details (amount, time, and the account or number you paid) and ask them to block your card and stop or recall the payment.
  3. Change your online banking password and PIN if anyone may know them. Bank of America will never ask for your PIN, password or a one-time code.
  4. Report it to the police too: see who handles cybercrime in United States, and keep screenshots of every message and payment.

Know this about United States

  • A phone call alone does not protect your legal rights on a credit card dispute: also send it in writing within 60 days of the statement.
  • Wells Fargo states that neither it nor Zelle offers purchase protection on Zelle payments, for example if an item you paid for never arrives.
  • Zelle has no fraud phone line. Report Zelle fraud to your own bank or credit union.

If Bank of America won’t help

FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3)

Report online scams and internet-enabled fraud to the FBI using 'File a Complaint'.

Scammers pretend to be the IC3. The real IC3 never contacts you to ask for information or money, and does not work with law firms or crypto services to recover funds.
