Sri Lanka: The Official ETA Website and How to Spot Fake Sites

Many websites copy government visa and travel-authorisation sites and charge extra. Here is the official address for Sri Lanka (Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) / online visa, Department of Immigration and Emigration), what the government says about copycat sites, and where to report visa fraud, all read on its own pages.

Do this first

  1. Type the official address yourself or follow it from the government or embassy site. Do not use the first search result or an ad.
  2. Compare the web address letter by letter with the official domains below. A site that is not on them is not the government.
  3. Be wary of any site that adds a “service” or “processing” fee, or promises faster approval for extra money.
  4. If you already paid or entered passport and card details, call your bank’s fraud line now.

Official website

Who needs it: All foreign nationals (except listed diplomatic/official passport cases) need an ETA before arriving in Sri Lanka, including nationals of the 40 free countries.

Processing time, as published: Online applications: acknowledgement by email; applications through Sri Lankan overseas missions are issued 'within 03 business days'. An ETA holder must enter within three months of issue.

What the government says about fake sites

The FAQ answers 'What is the ETA website?' simply with 'Please refer to www.eta.gov.lk'. The site says it is the 'official website' of the Department of Immigration & Emigration and lists the free-country scheme, so a site charging for a nationality on the free list is a red flag.

Report visa fraud

No fraud-report route published on the ETA pages. Contact (official Contact page): Hotline +94 71 9967888 (24/7 ETA call centre per Apply page); telephone +94 11 2777638 Mon-Fri 09:00-16:00 IST; email [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]; Department of Immigration and Emigration, Suhurupaya, Sri Subuthipura Road, Baththaramulla.

Checked on the government’s own pages on 30 October 2026. Fees are not listed because they change; read the current fee on the official site. If something has moved, tell us.
