India: The Official ETA Website and How to Spot Fake Sites
Many websites copy government visa and travel-authorisation sites and charge extra. Here is the official address for India (India e-Visa (e-Tourist, e-Business, e-Medical etc.) with Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)), what the government says about copycat sites, and where to report visa fraud, all read on its own pages.
Do this first
- Type the official address yourself or follow it from the government or embassy site. Do not use the first search result or an ad.
- Compare the web address letter by letter with the official domains below. A site that is not on them is not the government.
- Be wary of any site that adds a “service” or “processing” fee, or promises faster approval for extra money.
- If you already paid or entered passport and card details, call your bank’s fraud line now.
Official website
- Apply here: indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/Registration
- Government information page: indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/
- Official domains: indianvisaonline.gov.in, boi.gov.in, mha.gov.in, gov.in
Who needs it: Foreign nationals of eligible countries visiting India for tourism, business, medical and similar short purposes who want an electronic visa rather than a visa from a mission.
Processing time, as published: Apply online at least 4 days before arrival (Consulate General of India, San Francisco). The portal says applicants should normally get any document re-upload request within 24 hours of submission.
What the government says about fake sites
High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur (hosted on mea.gov.in): fake/fraudulent websites claim to provide Indian e-visa services and some mimic Government of India sites; 'the only website to apply for Indian E-visa is indianvisaonline.gov.in'; the notice lists fake URLs, e.g. indiaimmigration.in, indianevisagov.in, indiavisa.co.in, indianvisaonline-gov.in. Report visa fraud
High Commission KL notice gives [email protected] for e-visa queries. Payment helpdesk numbers are printed on the portal (24x7): SBI +91-022-65361671, Axis Bank +91 1800-419-0073 (toll-free numbers for several countries listed on the portal).
Checked on the government’s own pages on 30 October 2026. Fees are not listed because they change; read the current fee on the official site. If something has moved, tell us.
