Japan Post: Official Contacts and How to Report a Scam

Got a message or call about a Japan Post parcel, a redelivery fee or a customs charge? Here is what Japan Post officially publishes: its real contact numbers, the domains it uses, what it says it will never do, and where to report a scam.

Do this first

  1. Do not click the link or call the number in the message. Open the official Japan Post website or app yourself and enter the tracking number there.
  2. Check the sender against the official domains and phone numbers below. Anything else is not from Japan Post.
  3. If you already paid or typed in card details, call your bank's fraud line now.
  4. Report the message using the routes below, then tell the regulator if Japan Post won't help.

What Japan Post says about scams: Japanese-language page on suspicious emails/SMS and fake websites impersonating Japan Post. Do not click links; delete the message. Typical lures: address needs re-registering, redelivery fee, customs fee, payment within 24-48 hours or parcel cancelled/returned, ZIP/PDF attachments, fake 'web pickup' emails. Japan Post says its website URLs do not use '.net' or '.top', and that it uses SPF and DKIM domain authentication against spoofed email.

Report a scam or fraud: No email or form for reporting; page advises asking the Japan Post customer service consultation centre if unsure, and consulting the nearest police station or #9110 (police consultation line) if worried.

  • Fake messages demand redelivery or customs fees and threaten return or cancellation within 24-48 hours.
  • Japan Post URLs do not use .net or .top.
  • Do not click links in suspicious email or SMS; delete them.

If Japan Post won’t help:

Police consultation line #9110 / nearest police station: Named on Japan Post's page as where to consult about suspicious emails and SMS.
