Mexico Warns of Loan App Sharks Calling From Colombia, Nicaragua and Beyond

The cyber police unit of Mexico's Michoacán state prosecutor's office has published 14 phone numbers used in calls that threaten people into paying for loans they say they never took. Nine of the numbers are Mexican, three are Colombian and one is Nicaraguan. The pattern matches Mexico's "montadeudas" loan-app extortion.
The Policía Cibernética Michoacán, part of the Michoacán state prosecutor's office (Fiscalía General del Estado, FGE), warned the public on 28 October 2026 about phone calls in which callers threaten and intimidate people into paying for loans that the victims say they never requested.
The reported numbers
The FGE published 14 numbers. Nine are Mexican (+52), three Colombian (+57), one Nicaraguan (+505), and one is printed with an incomplete code:
- Mexico (+52): 556 464 4350, 443 174 8772, 551 245 0847, 332 027 0412, 553 715 5867, 552 330 2509, 722 825 2764, 744 391 9975, 745 117 4058
- Colombia (+57): 301 320 5045, 324 673 2862, 301 320 6788
- Nicaragua (+505): 8 644 7127
- One more is printed as "+59 399 447 1512". That is not a valid country code as written and is likely an Ecuadorian mobile (+593).
The Mexican numbers cover area codes in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Morelia, Toluca, Acapulco and Guerrero state. Foreign and out-of-state lines point to callers working well beyond Michoacán.
A known pattern
The calls follow the "montadeudas" model that Mexican police have warned about repeatedly. A loan app or caller invents a debt, then uses threats and pressure to force payment. Mexico City's cyber police have reported victims who only downloaded a loan app, never received money, and were still extorted. In February 2026, Michoacán's cyber police issued a separate warning on montadeudas schemes offering "easy money".
What police advise
- Do not pay under threats or pressure for debts you do not recognise.
- Do not share personal or banking details or verification codes.
- Keep screenshots, messages, audio and call logs as evidence.
- Verify any alleged debt before paying, and report the threats.
