A new wave of cyber fraud has emerged across India, targeting users of popular UPI platforms such as Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm. According to recent reports, scammers are sending fake payment requests disguised as refunds or rewards.
Victims receive a “collect request” and are tricked into approving it, believing they are receiving money. In reality, they end up authorizing a payment to the scammer. Many users have reported losing amounts ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹50,000.
Cybersecurity experts advise users to never approve unknown payment requests and to verify all transactions before proceeding. Authorities are actively investigating the scam and urging citizens to report such incidents on the National Cyber Crime
