IIT Kanpur’s C3iHub Rolls Out Intensive Cybersecurity Training for Uttar Pradesh Power Sector Officials

C3iHub’s specialised training equips participants with hands-on skills in OT threat detection, industrial protocol security (such as Modbus and IEC 61850), IT-OT convergence risks, and realistic attack simulations on control systems, enabling power sector professionals to better protect critical infrastructure from targeted cyber threats.
Kanpur, August 18, 2026: C3iHub at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has commenced a specialised 6-day intensive cybersecurity training programme for officials of Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL). The batch of 30 participants began the programme on 17 August and will continue until 22 August 2026.
The curriculum covers industry-specific threat landscapes relevant to the power sector, practical insights, and hands-on cybersecurity simulations. The initiative aims to equip participants with a deeper understanding of evolving cyber threats and strengthen overall cybersecurity preparedness across critical power generation infrastructure.
This training forms part of C3iHub’s broader efforts under its Power Sector Training Program to build capacity among personnel managing India’s vital energy assets.
About C3iHub, IIT Kanpur C3iHub (Cybersecurity and Cybersecurity of Cyber-Physical Systems), also known as IHUB NTIHAC Foundation, is a Technology Innovation Hub established at IIT Kanpur under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Recently upgraded to a Technology Translational Research Park (TTRP) focused on cybersecurity, it develops indigenous security solutions for critical sectors, supports startups, delivers specialised training, and partners with industry and government to protect cyber-physical systems. Led by CEO Dr. Tanima Hajra, the hub works closely with experts including Dr. Anand Handa to translate research into practical defences for national infrastructure.
About Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) and why this training matters UPRVUNL is the wholly owned state power generation utility of Uttar Pradesh, operating multiple thermal and hydro power stations with a combined installed capacity of over 9,600 MW. As the backbone of electricity supply for India’s most populous state, its plants and associated Operational Technology (OT) and IT systems form critical national infrastructure. Cyber attacks on power generation facilities can lead to widespread blackouts, economic disruption, and risks to public safety. Specialised training of this nature is therefore essential for UPRVUNL officials to recognise threats, harden systems against malware and ransomware, improve incident response, and maintain reliable power supply amid rising state-sponsored and sophisticated cyber risks targeting the energy sector.
