Belagavi City Police hold workshop on investigation and collection of electronic evidence

The session was organized by Belagavi City police in association with Shreshta IT Technologies Pvt. Ltd. on the theme "Electronic Evidence: From First Response to Courtroom Proof" and was attended by over 40 senior police officers.
BELAGAVI, The Belagavi City Police conducted a workshop on "Investigation and Collection of Electronic Evidence" on 12 August 2026 at the Conference Hall, Office of the Commissioner of Police, Belagavi City. The programme was organised for Police Inspectors and Investigating Officer Assistants of the Belagavi City Police.
The session was delivered by Shri Swapneel Patnekar, CEO of Shreshta IT Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Belagavi, on the theme "Electronic Evidence: From First Response to Courtroom Proof." It addressed the practical framework for identifying, preserving, collecting, authenticating and presenting electronic evidence under the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
Working through examples drawn from WhatsApp records, mobile devices, cryptographic hashing, chain of custody, certification requirements and cloud-held records, the workshop focused on how officers can build an evidence trail that is technically sound at the point of seizure and legally defensible at trial. Emphasis was placed on first-response handling, correct documentation, and the certification and integrity requirements that determine whether electronic records are admitted and relied upon in court.
CPI B.R. Gadekar also spoke on extracting video recordings from CCTV devices and presenting such electronic evidence in court.

City Police Commissioner Shri Borase Bhushan Gulabrao, IPS, addressed the gathering.
The workshop was organised with the objective of strengthening the knowledge and practical skills of investigating officers in the identification, collection, preservation, analysis and effective use of electronic evidence during investigation.
