How Police Request Data from Reddit
Police and government officials send lawful requests to Reddit through its law-enforcement portal. The details below are taken from Reddit's own published guidelines.

Emergency requests
Complete the Emergency Disclosure Form on the Reddit Legal Request Portal; Reddit may disclose limited account information without legal process if it believes disclosure is needed to prevent imminent death or serious bodily harm, reviewed case by case. What Reddit says about legal process
- Legal process. Basic subscriber information only in response to a subpoena, court order or other valid legal process (or a valid emergency request); other non-content records need an 18 U.S.C. 2703(d) order or equivalent; contents of communications need a valid search warrant or as otherwise authorized by law.
- Requests from other countries. Reddit may disclose account information in response to legally valid requests issued through international procedures such as an MLAT or letters rogatory upon proper service; requests concerning EEA users can be served on Reddit Netherlands B.V.
- Preservation. Supported via the Legal Request Portal on law-enforcement letterhead, signed, naming the username(s), records, URLs and timeframe, in PDF; records are preserved 90 days by default, extendable for a further 90 days by a written extension request (send at least 7 days before expiry).
- Notifying the user. Reddit will attempt to notify users of legal requests for their account information unless prohibited by law or in limited emergency, exigent or counterproductive circumstances.
