How Police Request Data from Lyft
Police and government officials send lawful requests to Lyft through its law-enforcement portal. The details below are taken from Lyft's own published guidelines.
Ministry of Cyber Affairs is not Lyft and cannot create or reset portal accounts, pass on requests or release data. Contact Lyft directly. Is this your company? Request a correction.
Where to send the request

Check before you send
- All data requests go through Lyft's online request form. [email protected] is for public-health requests in the US, and for questions and urgent investigations on Lyft's Canadian page. It is not for sending data requests.
Emergency requests
Submit through the same online portal with 'Emergency Disclosure Request' in the subject line and describe the emergency in detail; Lyft may disclose without a subpoena or warrant for an immediate threat of death or serious bodily harm, but valid legal process must be produced within three days. Contact: Portal https://lyft.request.csdisco.com/intake-form; the Canada page says [email protected] handles questions on the response process and emergency or urgent investigations.
What Lyft says about legal process
- Legal process. Basic information requires a subpoena issued in connection with an official criminal investigation; certain communications and GPS location data require a search warrant (federal or equivalent state) on probable cause; requests must be typed, signed and stamped by an empowered officer, addressed to Lyft, Inc., and narrowly tailored; Lyft will challenge National Security Letters.
- Requests from other countries. Canadian authorities submit through the same online form and need no MLAT for basic identifying information under valid Canadian process (Lyft may still direct MLAT depending on data); for countries where Lyft does not operate, follow MLAT or letters rogatory.
- Notifying the user. Lyft generally notifies users before producing information in a criminal investigation unless law prohibits notice, notice would be counterproductive or unsafe, or it is an emergency; non-disclosure needs a court order or sufficient detail.
