How Police Request Data from LINE
LINE does not publish a dedicated law-enforcement contact. Below is what its own pages say about legal process, and where an officer can start.
Ministry of Cyber Affairs is not LINE and cannot create or reset portal accounts, pass on requests or release data. Contact LINE directly. Is this your company? Request a correction.
No police contact published
We checked LINE’s official legal, privacy and help pages on 17 October 2026 and found no address, portal or email for law-enforcement requests.

Emergency requests
No defined emergency procedure; the page says emergency requests for protection of life or body are considered case by case as an exception.
What LINE says about legal process
- Legal process. LY Corporation complies with searches and seizures based on judge-issued warrants; without a warrant it generally discloses only where a law directly requires it, with narrow exceptions (necessity defence, case-by-case investigative inquiries). Registered user information and, for LINE, communications data (at most about seven days of chat messages for a specified period; E2EE chats cannot be decrypted) may be disclosed. No specific request format is prescribed; response can take several weeks and costs may be charged.
- Requests from other countries. Overseas agencies must use MLAT procedures, diplomatic channels (check with the foreign ministry) or ICPO-INTERPOL (via the national police agency); LY follows Japanese international legal assistance frameworks.
- Preservation. Yes: data preservation requests can be submitted in advance of an MLAT, diplomatic-route or ICPO-INTERPOL request (the FAQ says this is possible); no separate direct procedure is described. Retention period of communication data is not disclosed.

Contacts were read on LINE’s own pages and checked on 17 October 2026; companies change them, so confirm on the official page before serving process. This page is general information, not legal advice. See also: all online services, LERS portal guides and police data requests by country.
