What Kik says about legal process

  • Legal process. A valid US search warrant, court order or subpoena plus a valid account identifier (JID, username or registration email) is required. Basic Subscriber Information includes registration name and email, profile/background photo, device information, account creation date, Kik version, birthdate if available, and 30 days of IP addresses (unverified by Kik). Message content requires a search warrant and a preservation request should be in place beforehand or the content folder may be empty.
  • Requests from other countries. Foreign agencies are not accepted directly: Kik only accepts valid legal process from US governmental entities or courts, and foreign agencies must cooperate with the US government through an appropriate legal mechanism.
  • Preservation. Yes: submit a Preservation Request on the Law Enforcement Request Form; Kik preserves all available account data for 365 days, extendable once more by 365 days if requested at least seven days before expiry (quote the original ticket number). Kik keeps content data only 60 days, so banned or inactive-over-60-days accounts have no content to preserve.
