How Police Request Data from Etsy
Police and government officials send lawful requests to Etsy through a legal-process email address. The details below are taken from Etsy's own published guidelines.

Emergency requests
Email [email protected] from an official government email address with: officer name, title, agency and full contact details; a summary of the facts showing danger of death or serious physical injury; the identity of the people in danger; the specific records sought and how they relate to the emergency; and why legal process cannot be obtained in time. What Etsy says about legal process
- Legal process. Etsy requires valid and sufficient legal process (for example a subpoena or court order) properly served to compel disclosure of Etsy member information, except in emergencies; it objects to overly broad or vague requests, and requests must identify the account (email, transaction ID, username, shop name or payment details) and the specific records, with the issuing authority and agent, a law-enforcement-domain email or a direct phone number.
- Requests from other countries. Requests about members in North and South America go to Etsy, Inc. (US); all other members go to Etsy Ireland UC. As a US company Etsy may require non-US process to be domesticated via MLAT, letters rogatory or 28 USC 1782; Etsy Ireland UC may require non-Irish process to be domesticated under the Irish Criminal Justice (Mutual Assistance) Act 2008.
- Notifying the user. If practicable, Etsy may notify the affected member before disclosure unless legally prohibited or where there is a clear indication of illegal conduct and prior notice would be counterproductive.
