Sweden: How to Report Bank Fraud

If money left your account without your permission, or you were tricked into sending it, contact your bank or payment provider straight away. The faster they hear from you, the better the chance of stopping or recovering the money. Below are the official fraud and card lines for 4 providers in Sweden.

Do this first

  1. Call your bank’s fraud or card line now. Use a number from this page, the back of your card, or your bank’s official app. Never use a number from a text, an email, a caller or a search ad.
  2. Block your card or freeze your account in the app if you can, and change your online banking password.
  3. Ask the bank for a reference number, and write down the time you reported it.
  4. Report it to the police as well: see who handles cybercrime in Sweden.
  5. Keep everything: messages, call logs, screenshots and transaction IDs. Your bank will never ask for your PIN, password or a one-time code.

Know this about Sweden

  • Block your Mobile BankID together with your card: all four banks ask victims to do both.
  • The refund right does not cover payments you were tricked into approving yourself, such as Swish scams. ARN decides those disputes case by case.

Complain to the bank first. If that fails, you can take the case to ARN (the National Board for Consumer Disputes) or to court.

Your rights

  • Payment Services Act (2010:751), chapter 5 a: unauthorised transactions. Your bank must restore the money immediately, and at the latest by the end of the next banking day after it learns of the transaction. If you failed to protect your security details, you pay at most SEK 400. If you were grossly negligent, a consumer pays at most SEK 12,000, unless the conduct was particularly reprehensible. You pay nothing for charges made after you asked the bank to block the card, or if strong customer authentication was not used. Report it as soon as possible: if you delay, you can be liable for the full amount. Source

Report it to the police too

Banks often ask for a police report before they investigate. Cybercrime agencies in Sweden lists who to report to, and our step-by-step guide covers the rest: How to Report Cybercrime in Sweden (and Get Your Money Back).

Every number on this page was read on the provider’s or regulator’s own website on 3 October 2026. Banks change numbers, so if one doesn’t work, use the number on your card or in the official app, and tell us so we can fix it. See every country in the Bank Fraud Help directory.
