South Korea: How to Report Bank Fraud
If money left your account without your permission, or you were tricked into sending it, contact your bank or payment provider straight away. The faster they hear from you, the better the chance of stopping or recovering the money. Below are the official fraud and card lines for 3 providers in South Korea.
Do this first
- Call your bank’s fraud or card line now. Use a number from this page, the back of your card, or your bank’s official app. Never use a number from a text, an email, a caller or a search ad.
- Block your card or freeze your account in the app if you can, and change your online banking password.
- Ask the bank for a reference number, and write down the time you reported it.
- Report it to the police as well: see who handles cybercrime in South Korea.
- Keep everything: messages, call logs, screenshots and transaction IDs. Your bank will never ask for your PIN, password or a one-time code.
Know this about South Korea
- The refund comes from money frozen in the fraudster's account, so ask the bank for a payment suspension (지급정지) immediately.

If your bank won’t help
Financial Supervisory Service (FSS, 금융감독원): call center 1332 and voice-phishing guidance
National financial complaints line and the official steps to take after voice phishing.
First call the call center of the bank that sent or received the money and ask for a payment suspension (지급정지); police (112) or FSS (1332) can also pass the request on. If your ID was leaked or a malicious app was installed, register the exposure at pd.fss.or.kr and suspend your accounts at payinfo.or.kr. Within 3 business days, submit a written damage-relief application at the bank branch, with a police incident confirmation. Calls to 1332 are charged.
Official websiteFSS voice-phishing refund procedure (피해금 환급)
Explains how frozen money is returned to victims.
The bank freezes the account used for the fraud, then FSS runs a procedure to cancel the account holder's claim to the money. FSS decides the refund amount within 14 days after that, and the bank pays you without delay.

- Special Act on Prevention of Telecommunications-Based Financial Fraud and Refund of Damages (전기통신금융사기 피해방지 및 피해금 환급에 관한 특별법). Lets banks suspend payments from an account used in phone or message fraud and return the frozen money to victims through a refund process run by FSS. Source
Report it to the police too
Banks often ask for a police report before they investigate. Cybercrime agencies in South Korea lists who to report to, and our step-by-step guide covers the rest: How to Report Cybercrime in South Korea (and Get Your Money Back).
