Jio Payments Bank Fraud: How to Report It and Stop the Money

If money left your Jio Payments Bank account without your permission, or you paid a scammer, contact Jio Payments Bank straight away and ask it to block the payment and your card. The first minutes matter most.

Do this first

  1. Call Jio Payments Bank’s official line below, or use help inside the official Jio Payments Bank app. Never use a number from a text, a caller or a search result.
  2. Give them the transaction details (amount, time, and the account or number you paid) and ask them to block your card and stop or recall the payment.
  3. Change your online banking password and PIN if anyone may know them. Jio Payments Bank will never ask for your PIN, password or a one-time code.
  4. Report it to the police too: see who handles cybercrime in India, and keep screenshots of every message and payment.

Know this about India

  • Report to your bank and to 1930 straight away: the sooner the bank knows, the better the chance it can put the money on hold before it is moved on.
  • Union Bank of India shows conflicting helpline numbers on its own website, so we do not list one: use the number on the back of your card, or call 1930.
  • Canara Bank's fraud team calls customers from 1600 108 090; you cannot call that number back. HDFC Bank says it never calls customers from 1800 1600 or 1800 2600.

If Jio Payments Bank won’t help

National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 and cybercrime.gov.in (NCRP)

Toll-free helpline 1930 gives assistance in lodging online cyber complaints, and cybercrime.gov.in is the national portal for reporting cyber crime, including financial fraud (Ministry of Home Affairs, PIB release of 22 July 2026).

The Ministry of Home Affairs says the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System under I4C is for immediate reporting of financial frauds to stop the money being moved on, and that a Grievance Redressal Module (for account freezing and lien marking) and a Money Restoration Module became functional from April 2026.

Sanchar Saathi: Chakshu

Report a suspected fraud call, SMS or WhatsApp message, such as a fake bank, KYC or SIM message, within 30 days. If you have already lost money, use 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in instead.

RBI Integrated Ombudsman (RB-IOS 2026)

Free complaint against a bank, NBFC or non-bank prepaid payment instrument (wallet) issuer after you have complained to it first.

Per the RB-IOS 2026 scheme (issued 16 January 2026, in force 1 July 2026): complain to the entity first; you may go to the Ombudsman if there is no reply within 30 days (or the longer time set by RBI, NPCI or card network rules) or you are unhappy with the reply, and you must file within 90 days of that. File at cms.rbi.org.in, by email to [email protected], or by post to the Centralised Receipt and Processing Centre, Reserve Bank of India, Central Vista, Sector 17, Chandigarh 160017. Toll-free 14448 is a 24x7 IVR for information on the scheme; agents Monday to Saturday (except national holidays) 8 AM to 10 PM.

Official website

NPCI UPI Help (MyUPI)

NPCI's UPI support portal: check transaction status, raise a complaint on a UPI payment (choose Fraudulent Transaction for a scam, or Fraud/Unauthorized Transaction if you never entered your PIN), and track it with the Complaint Reference Number (CRN).

NPCI's FAQ lists the 12-digit transaction ID (UTR), registered mobile number, the UPI ID (VPA) used and the transaction date. NPCI says it provides the platform but cannot reverse transactions itself; reversals are initiated by the beneficiary bank on your bank's request, and most disputes are resolved in 3 to 7 working days. For a scam it also tells users to report at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930. If unsatisfied with the outcome, NPCI's FAQ points to the bank's Ombudsman.

How a UPI complaint escalates (app, then banks, then NPCI, then ombudsman)

Order of escalation for a UPI complaint: complain first to the UPI app you used, then its PSP bank, then your own bank, then NPCI, then the RBI Ombudsman.

Source: WhatsApp's Dispute Redressal Mechanism page and the 'UPI Payments Terms Required by NPCI' section of its India Payments Terms; CRED's UPI terms (section J.6) state the same order. These are app providers' statements; NPCI's own dispute-redressal page could not be loaded on 24 Oct 2026, so it is not cited.

Official website

RBI Sachet portal

RBI's portal to report unauthorised financial activity (for example illegal deposit collection, Ponzi or MLM schemes, fake loan apps) and file complaints; it routes each type of concern to the right regulator and sends online-fraud complaints to I4C.

It is not the place to recover money from a UPI or wallet fraud; use 1930 and your bank for that.
