Unwanted Balance Deductions in Pakistan: How to Stop VAS and SMS Subscriptions on Jazz, Zong, Telenor and Ufone

Money vanishing from your SIM balance? Check and cancel hidden value added services with PTA's USSD codes, then complain to your operator and PTA.
Quick answer: If your mobile balance keeps shrinking and you do not know why, a "value added service" (VAS) subscription is the most likely cause. Dial your operator's code to list and cancel them: Jazz and Zong *6611#, Telenor *4444#, Ufone *6869#. Then complain to your operator, and to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) if it does not fix the problem.
What to do in 3 steps
- Check and cancel. Dial the code for your network (table below). You will see the services active on your SIM. Cancel any you did not ask for. Take a screenshot of the list first.
- Complain to your operator and get a reference number. Call the helpline, say you did not consent to the service, ask for the deductions to be refunded, and write down the complaint reference number. PTA tells consumers to do this first and to give the operator the prescribed time to resolve it. Under PTA's consumer protection regulations (2009), an operator must issue a complaint number and resolve the complaint within three working days.
- Escalate to PTA. If the operator does not resolve it, lodge a complaint with PTA and quote your operator's reference number.
Codes and helplines by operator
| Operator | View and cancel VAS | Helpline |
|---|---|---|
| Jazz | *6611# | 111 300 300 or +92 51 2817533 |
| Zong | *6611# | 310 (from a Zong number) or 051-111-222-111 |
| Telenor | *4444# | 345 |
| Ufone | *6869# | 333 (from a Ufone number) |
The four codes come from PTA's announcement of 10 June 2026, which directed all mobile operators to give subscribers easy access to their VAS information. Menu options can differ slightly by operator.
What counts as a value added service
PTA lists caller tunes, daily SMS or internet bundles, missed call alerts, mobile games, horoscope updates, quiz services and other subscription content. Each one is usually a small daily charge, which is why it can run for weeks before you notice.
Your rights: no consent, no charge
PTA's public notice of 3 March 2026 says no VAS can be activated without your clear consent. Activation requires confirmation through a one-time password (OTP) and/or by dialling a specific USSD code. PTA's words: if you have not shared an OTP or dialled any code, the service should not be active, and such an activation may be unauthorized.
That is the basis for asking for a refund. We cannot promise one, so keep your evidence: screenshots of the service list, the SMS messages about the charges, and your complaint reference number.
How to complain to PTA
- Online: the PTA Complaint Management System at complaint.pta.gov.pk. You create a profile with your CNIC and a mobile number that receives a login code.
- App: the PTA CMS mobile app (search for "PTA CMS" in your phone's app store).
- Phone: the toll-free consumer helpline 0800-55055.
- WhatsApp: PTA's digital assistant on 0315-0055055 explains the complaint steps.
If the money left a mobile wallet
A deduction from a JazzCash or Easypaisa wallet is a different problem from a SIM balance charge. Contact the wallet provider's own helpline and see our mobile wallet fraud help pages. If you were tricked into sending money, follow the steps in our guide to reporting cybercrime in Pakistan.
How to stop it happening again
- Never enter or forward an OTP you did not ask for. A pop-up or ad that suddenly shows a code prompt is a warning sign.
- Avoid tapping banners and "free offer" ads while browsing on mobile data.
- Dial your operator's VAS code once a month and cancel anything unfamiliar.
- Check your balance after any "free" offer and keep the confirmation SMS.
